The speed control is great, no preset speeds, just dial it up to whatever you need. Once you place your hand on the intake at full speed you will notice that the system creates a fair amount of static pressure, in other words it is fairly strong for a little box like this. I have not been able to put it through a full test with the engraver yet but on its own the unit is clean and compact. I took one of the pictures next to my desk chair to give you a reference of its size, the other one next to my crosscut shredder.

It does move an incredible amount of air even at low settings and the noise level is actually a bit quieter than i expected it to be.
